Rocky Romero’s career started off deliberately as he chose to
learn his craft from the ground up, perfecting each step in his
evolution before moving on. And it has paid off as he has become
one of the most established names in American independent
wrestling.
Romero has proven time and time again that size and success do
not go hand in hand as he has defeated many larger and more
favoured opponents over his career. He is well know for his
lightning quick strikes and his submission based wrestling
style.
Under the tutelage of various New Japan wrestlers, such as the
famed Mr Antonio Inoki, Romero was part of a training group that
included TNA star Samoa Joe, former ROH World Champion Brian
Danielson, Puma (TJ Perkins) and Ricky Reyes.
Together these men drove each other to the next level. And with
Reyes as his partner, Rocky stormed Ring of Honour in 2003
becoming the ROH tag team champions. The Havana Pitbulls, as
they were known, were also part of a bigger group known as the
Rottweilers, which included Homicide and Low Ki (Senshi).
Rocky also went to New Japan Pro Wrestling as the 4th Black
Tiger, a name that was previously carried by the late Eddie
Guerrero. As Black Tiger, Rocky became the IWGP Junior
Heavyweight Champion.
2007 has been a busy year for Romero as he has been bouncing all
over the globe. He has been a regular with NOAH, IGF (Inoki
Genome Federation) and ROH.
Rocky’s return to Ring of Honour has seen him teaming with
Roderick Strong & Davey Richards as the No Remorse Corpse. At
ROH’s first ever PPV, Romero had an incredible bout with NOAH’s
former GHC Heavyweight Champion Naomichi Marafuji.
After 10 years in the game, Rocky is having perhaps his finest
year in 2007.
