Brackets for the NWA Australian National
Tournament Announced
As you should already know, November 23rd will see the very
first NWA Australian champion crowned in Perth, Australia. The
names for this 8 man tournament have now been finalised and with
time fast running out, NWA officials sat down over the weekend
to determine the brackets for the tournament.
In order to create the best possible tournament, we have seeded
one Australian wrestler and one international wrestler to
attempt to keep them on opposite sides of the draw.
After much debate, NWA Pro officials have decided that Claudio
Castagnoli would be the seed for the international contingent.
Claudio has had a fantastic summer in the United States,
especially in Ring of Honour where he won the Race to the Top
Tourney in July.
The decision to determine the #1 seed for Australia proved no
easier. Jimmy Payne has been dominating Australian wrestling as
he held onto the EPW championship for over 15 months. Spike
Steele has been dominating wrestling on both sides of the
continent but has failed to win any gold in 2007.
In the end, the panel decided to award the #1 Australian seed to
Mikey Nicholls. Since his relocation from Perth to California,
Mikey Nicholls has done exceptionally well for himself in
Southern California. He even claimed the Empire Wrestling
Federation American Championship in early September.
It had already been decided that after their drawn qualification
match, that Davis Storm & Bobby Marshall would face off in the
first round of the tournament. So after separating the two seeds
onto opposing sides of the draw, names were then drawn out of a
hat to determine the first round matches for this historic
tournament.

The draw has certainly provided us with what should be an
extremely entertaining and exciting tournament. The only thing
for sure, is that with this quality line up, whoever takes home
the gold will have earned it.
