Rocky Romero Ready to Fight for Australian Gold
WA
officials confirmed today that international wrestling star,
Rocky Romero would be awarded the final spot in the NWA Pro
Australian Championship Tournament.
Romero was due to take on Canada’s Nelson Creed for a chance to
represent their country in Perth in November. However, Creed has
suffered a serious injury that has prevented him from returning
to California to challenge Rocky.
With the tournament getting closer by the day, NWA officials had
to make the tough decision to award the final to Romero. Romero
has battled all over the world and will be considered the
bookies favourite to take home the gold.
Unfortunately, NWA officials also received some devastating
news. Due to commitments for New Japan Pro Wrestling, Ireland’s
Fergal Devitt has had to withdraw from the tournament.
When contacted for comment, Devitt was sombre about missing out
on the chance to become the first NWA Australian Champion.
Fergal added that he thought it was still a world class field
competing for the gold and whoever won the belt would have
thoroughly deserved it.
Devitt apologised to his fans in Australia and hopes to have the
chance to get out there in 2008.
So with one international wrestler into the tournament and one
out, there is still one spot remaining. Who will step up and
claim the last chance to become the very first internationally
recognised Australian Champion?
