Since 1948, the National Wrestling Alliance
has been synonymous with tradition within professional wrestling
circles.
On January 13th of 2006, officials from NWA Pro & Perth’s
Explosive Pro Wrestling met in Los Angeles. A successful meeting
led to EPW becoming a part of NWA Pro and, in turn, becoming a
part of the National Wrestling Alliance.
The relationship has seen many EPW wrestlers travel to Southern
California to train and participate on NWA Pro shows. These
wrestlers have impressed officials from NWA Pro who have decided
that the time is right for Australian wrestling to have a
champion who is recognised internationally by the National
Wrestling Alliance.
On November 23rd 2007, the National Wrestling Alliance will
proudly crown its very first Australian wrestling champion.
An eight man single elimination tournament will be held at
Challenge Stadium in Perth, Western Australia with the winner
being awarded the NWA Pro Australian wrestling championship.
While it will named the Australian title, the belt and indeed
the tournament will not be exclusively for Australian wrestlers.
The NWA insisted that two of the spots in the tournament go to
international wrestlers. This is to ensure that the first NWA
Australian champion be of a world class level.
The participants in the tournament will be announced through out
2007 with more details being announced as the show draws closer. |
